I often look at your blog and I have been an avid reader since you did Secret Millionaire. I have found your Top Tips really useful especially the ones about Marketing. I run a training company too. As such we are on a range of mailing lists and we get bombarded by marketing and advertising companies who want to sell me things.
I have taken on advertising schemes a couple of times and I have found it very expensive for very little return. I do the usual networking events and I feel I should do a lot more PR stuff as this seems to have the best results. however I was thinking about other possible sources of advertising when I had a eureka moment.
I thought if I put together a little magazine that would be distributed locally I could include a number of our own articles and adverts in it. It then struck me that there are local business who like myself need to advertise but would get lost in big directories and advertising journals, but might have more success in a small, friendly publication which only charged a nominal fee to advertise - by doing this we could cover the cost of printing and distribution, we would be getting our information to more people and we might even make a little additional money which just supports expenses.
I discussed it with my staff and it turned out that one of my trainees was really interested in developing the Magazine and that he could use this towards various parts of his NVQ and Key Skills qualification.
To date it has been a great success and we are now doing this on a by-monthly basis.
Its lovely to see something that started out as a thought blossom into something that provides support for everyone.
