Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 14:23Off on my travels

Eventually i have to take off my snowballing gloves - put my wellies away - pack my bag and head off to some meetings. That time is now.

I am off to London to speak at the annual conference of the Citizens Advice Service.

They asked me to say a few words and sit on the panel which is the opening session of the day. I said yes - little knowing that over the last few days that they would send me more and more questions and suggestions on things i might like to talk about - and things that i might be asked about. Oooppss. Feels like homework.

I normally get to talk about the things i feel passionate about - I don't normally have to talk about other people's passions. This feels quite difficult. I wonder whether this is how politics feels. Talking on any manner of subject - a subject that is not 'yours'.

It can leave you feeling exposed.  Interesting.

It feels so much like homework - tat it reminded me that my daughter was missing out on her homework - as she has not been to school. So fairs fair - if i was going to sit down and do homework - so can she.

A few sour faces later - and she produced two great pieces of work. A poem on the fun of missing a day at school because of snow and a journalism piece on how the UK could and should cope better in bad weather. I gave her top marks.

I will have to wait until tomorrow to see what marks i get!
