Monday 9th June 2008, 11:21Gave me hope - what do you think?

I am notorious for actually not knowing (or wanting to know) much about the whole wannabee celebrity thing. I really, really don't like the day time telly screaming matches either.

I must be getting old - I find it all really sad. I am well known amongst my mates - (especially those who read Hello etc. for being blind to it all) - I have sat next to 'stars' and been oblivious.

Reading the newspaper this weekend - I came across a small article that summed up the way i have been feeling - and gave me hope.

The article proposed that there was a subtle shift taking place. That instead of all the media cynically highlighting celebrities with no talents, acres of bling and people who scream at eachother on tv - some are starting to think that it is time to highlight and celebrate lives well lived.

Lives well lived can inspire the rest of us. Real stars who have talent, great scientists, great mums and dads, people who work hard, people who give and share. People who make a difference in their community. I want to hear the stories of people who are filled up by consuming emotional satisfaction - not the people that need material satisfaction.

I would love to see and hear the stories of people that have overcome problems, people who have found pleasure in the simple human things. I would learn from them - and when I sit next to them - I would know them and desparetely want to talk to them. Maybe - if I met them - I would be a bit star struck!

These people would be the people who could give us all a proper 'lift.'

(Watched a bit of the latest UK Big Brother - does anyone think that the production company is on to this - it seems that they have chosen people who have only got the desire to be famous and seen - it is the expressed wish of the majority of the house mates. Are the production company showing us how shallow this all is? I hope so. Are they showing how far down the wrong path we have gone by exposing the desperation of the house mates. The things they will do to grab at the fame and the material things -  (Including get married to a stranger!)).

uummmmm.

Let's all ask for more media that celebrates lives well lived - lives that are filled with emotional satisfaction. Could help us all find a better path - and there would be less screaming on the telly!
