I was thinking of Paul Potts And his rise to fame and I was thinking about what an ordinary humble man he was and totally unassuming. I watched his You Tube first audition and watched in wonder at the faces of the judges as he took his place on the stage in front of an audience and panel of experts who had already judged him if not a loser then certainly not a winner.
And there he stood, anxious, lacking in confidence and self esteem. Bare to the judgements of strangers.
And then he sang.
And boy could he sing. The judges moved to tears, the audience standing in ovation.
All who listened and saw him perform knew he was a winner. All except perhaps Paul, who meekly smiled, struggled to accept the applause and praise of the judges. Still unable to acknowledge his own rare talent.
Now entertaining around the world Paul goes from strength to strength.
As we sit in our offices and see a procession of people, some at their wits end. Many who have lost any belief that they can nurture a talent which will win them a job, we sit there in judgement and we choose to applaude. We have that power to lift a lost soul and to transform lives. We choose to nurture and build the confidence of those battered by the awfulness of the lives some people in our communities are condemed to live just because of the colour of their skin, their appearance, physical and mental barriers, religeon or just the cloud that is cast over them because of where they were born.
We are privilaged to have a role that can find many people like Paul Potts every day. And behind every anxious face and shuffling customer with low self esteem we have the chance to find the star. We have been given the chance to judge our customers winners and help them reengage with their talent. I hope I will always be able to match the ability i see demonstrated everyday in our offices by our staff who are always looking for that talent that sits in everyone. Thank you for never giving up on the people who come to us for our help.
