Thursday 28th February 2008, 21:20OutsidersOutsiders

In so many of the communities in which we work our mission takes us into the world of those in our society who see themselves as outsiders. Whether it be in England with the excluded groups of people in poverty, people with disabilities, prisoners or those who feel they live on the wrong side of the tracks, or Germany with the Turkish communities, France with the North African communities, Australia with the Aborigine and Torres Straits communities, India with those who live in the remote rural areas or today in Malmo with the immigrant Iraqi communities they all share that sense of being apart from the society in which they live rather than being apart of that society.

It is something which I know gives us enormous pride to have that chance to work with these groups of individuals, to bring to the fore their skills, talents, dreams and the aspirations they have for their families.

In A4e we have a special bond that binds us together; a shared vision of Improving Peoples Lives, a belief that through work we can help to set people on a pathway towards independence and equality.

Our geographical footprint enables A4e through your work to seek best practice where ever we find it and to distribute our own vision of supporting and empowering people to have that sense of belief, a heightened level of self esteem and above all the hope that there is a place for them in the society where they live. It is not enough to exist, we understand that all of us need to feel we belong, we have value and our value is recognised, security and knowing we can provide for our families go hand in hand.

Although we have been working towards the delivery of programmes in the West Bank in Palestine for the last two years it is very exciting that we are now in the final stages of being able to launch these projects with the help of many people in the UK and the Middle East. I would just like to say a big Thank You to all those people who have had confidence in us and helped us understand the way in which we can add value to this community. We will not fail to deliver on the promises we have made.

Also my thanks to everybody in A4e for the work that goes on everyday, in all our centres which provides the platform for the work we are able to do which reaches out to those in our world who feel outside – I know our work helps to bring all of these communities closer together.

Thanks for the amazing work you do.
