Wednesday 13th December 2006, 22:12Improving People's Lives - Business Support?I have been asked how I can justify the use of the phrase Improving People’s Lives when delivering Business Support. How does it fit in?
Well I can understand the question; in fact if I am honest I asked myself that question a couple of times before we agreed to move in this direction. Why ask the question, well we are clear about the vision we have for A4e, it is about Improving People’s Lives, all the time. Not just when it sounds good, not just because it looks good on the letterhead, but because we are a group of people who share this common thread in life that we want to work in such a way the Improves People’s Lives. So each time we look at a new service we have to ask the question “Is the delivery of this service likely to Improve People’s Lives?”
Only if the answer is yes can we move forward.
Emma is very clear in her web site video “we will do anything that Improves People’s Lives and more importantly we won’t do anything that won’t.”
So back to the tough question “how does Business Support Improve people’s Lives?” well I believe it clearly meets our vision for A4e because;
• If businesses are better run staff have more job security, more training, better and equal rates of pay, an investment in their career. • If a business is run well it has a sound financial base where suppliers can rely on being paid and investments for the future are made. • A well run business has a good environmental framework – reducing carbon emissions. • A well run business is exporting and growing and creating new jobs. • Business support can provide support and advice to the business owner and senior team, reducing stress and reinventing the wheel. • A well run business creates wealth, to pay taxes, to provide public services for everyone in a community. So a strong community business base is essential to the well being of the community. • We are able to support Social Enterprise and business start up. • We are also able to facilitate the competitiveness of UK businesses so they can grow but also so we can play our part in protecting UK jobs.
There are many other reasons why Business Support is so useful, but it is always good to ask the question.
Do you think there are any services we are currently delivering where you feel we are not Improving People’s Lives?
Are there services which you think we should be delivering because there is a real need to Improve People’s Lives?
Thanks for the questions, keep them coming in:
Thanks
