Tuesday 27th February 2007, 12:27Long Time No Blog

It's been a while since I had a chance to update my blog. Over the last month I've spent time working with our teams on a range of interesting stuff with different governments, as well as different parties in different countries. This work revolves around us making sure we take every opportunity to input into service design and policy review of the services we are involved. For me, the most important thing is putting the customer at the heart of policy design. Sounds a lot easier than it sometimes works out to be!

As a company that's grown up delivering public services we have a..Mark LovellView Complete Post

Wednesday 21st February 2007, 16:43Lets get everyone involved

To all my regular A4e readers - a favour please - tell the rest of the gang about my blog - encourage them to read it. Lets help them get involved.

Also - questions please - send me your questions  - questions that I can respond to via my blogs - i.e. things you think other people would be interested in - cheers.

I noticed that in Roy Newey's blogs that he talks about getting the odd strange response - well i get my fair share too - marvellous. All of life is out there...

Wednesday 21st February 2007, 16:33Last chance to put yourself forward - to work with me

Quick  - look back through my blogs - find the one about being an intern - and respond if you want to.

I have had quite a few applications for the post - so by the end of the week I will create a cut-off. After that a selection of people will be invited to come and spend half the day with me and maybe a couple of other Directors - chatting through current issues and just generally getting to know each other. What I'm hoping is that even if people are not successful in being picked this time - they will at least have had a great half day at my house - full of inspirati..eharrisonView Complete Post

Wednesday 21st February 2007, 15:54Local Democracy (Poland Vs UK)Local Democracy

Well you would think we had a lot to teach people in ex communist countries about how democracy works wouldn’t you?

Last week I had the chance to meet Barbara Imiolczyk who is the President of the Executive Committee for the “Foundation in Support of Local Democracy”. This organisation was set up in 1992 and has been implementing assistance for countries undergoing systematic transformation i.e. ex communist European countries.

They work at a local level to ensure the benefits of democracy, something that they fought very ha..

Wednesday 21st February 2007, 14:44A big day - two Palaces and the end of an era

Got back home at Midnight last night. I had caught the train to London in the morning - had some lunch and them made my way to Buckingham Palace for the last ever national board meeting of the NSPCC Full Stop Appeal. Five years - and now it was the last meeting. As a team we had done what we set out to do - raise £250 million to change the UK for children - to help stop cruelty - do so much. We had done it - the largest amount of money ever raised in a single campaign in the history of UK fundraising. It was very emotional - we were in the beautiful surroundings of a gorgeous drawing ..eharrisonView Complete Post

Friday 16th February 2007, 10:52Travels to Germany, France and Israel

My Diary is looking pretty packed over the next few weeks - and exciting too.

I am really looking forward to visiting our new offices in Germany and France and re-visting our large established office in Israel. I have heard so much about the great people who have joined A4e - their attitude, values and determination. Can't wait to meet you all.

When I was last in Israel - we had only just started - the building was not finished - there were not many staff and so many things were still just plans.

I can't wait to see the changes - I hear that the o..View Complete Post

Thursday 15th February 2007, 12:46Responses to my blogs and upcoming speeches

The IT system has finally ground into action and revealed the responses to my blogs that were hidden in a weird account - so a belated thank you to all who have been in touch.

I have had an enourmous response to the C4 prog Secret Millionaire. The general feeling is that people were inspired by the programme and that they shed a few tears. Some saying it was the best TV they had seen in an age. Thank you.

The prog had a purpose - a sense of purpose - maybe that made the difference. Hope so. I hear that C4 have commissioned another six 'secret millionaires' - becaus..eharrisonView Complete Post

Thursday 15th February 2007, 12:27My visit to Buckingham Palace to see the Queen

Yesterday I attended a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by the Queen, Princess Anne, Camilla and Sophie.

It was a gathering of 200 Women in Business - a great event. I met everyone - and the Queen was smart, intelligent and working hard! Making us all feel very welcome. We spent some time in several state rooms, chatting, having a drink and canapes. It was very inspiring to be surrounded by so many successful women - if only I had had the chance to hear all their stories.

I noticed a little crowd in the centre of one of the rooms and wandered over to find Sharon O..eharrisonView Complete Post

Monday 12th February 2007, 23:12Paris....Paris……….

I had a trip to visit our French operation last week. I met a group of staff who are really committed to tackling the needs of unemployed people and have fully understood the way in which we seek to “Improve Peoples Lives”.

One of our clients is homeless, unemployed and buried in a sea of debt. Our team have helped to resolve and reschedule his debt and are confident of securing him a job whilst they have also made great progress to getting him into his own home. This is a real success story and one which gives me great comfort..
