Friday 27th April 2007, 23:01Marathon ReportMarathon

As you know I undertook to complete the London Flora Marathon after being inspired by Steve Marsland, Laura Hargreaves, John Ashworth and Steve Glassock last year. This was tough because before I could complete a marathon I really needed to loose 5 stone in weight, I had health problems and asthma and was not great at taking responsibility for my own health.

I started walking, and then walking and running and running and walking and running. Bit by bit I started to run a bit stronger. I changed my eating habits and was just sensible at what I ate, when I ate it..

Friday 27th April 2007, 21:52South AfricaSouth Africa

I had the chance to visit South Africa last week in response to a number of invitations we have received to explore the opportunities to deliver our services. Arriving in Johannesburg I was struck by the sense of energy and spirit the local people have as they build their country. Unemployment is a real issue which affects most families in South Africa particularly in the rural communities. And yet there is a sense of pride in many peoples faces as they seek to rebuild their country based on principles of equality and freedom for all. The government has done much to es..

I just want to thank everyone who took part in this year’s One Vision. It was really good for the soul to meet up with old friends and make new friends. I always enjoy catching up on all the new issues we are tackling and the innovative ways local teams are working to support our customers to Improve their Lives. Sara and her team deserve our warmest thanks for an exhilarating event – thank you.

The presentations from the group feedback sessions were excellent I shouldn’t be amazed but I was amazed at the energy, creativity and passion which..

Thursday 26th April 2007, 09:04Inspirational People I’ve said in previous Blogs that one of the things that inspires me is the people who work in A4e to drive the business day in day out. That applies to both our front line staff and the leaders in our business. Last week we held our One Vision conference and our IPL (Improving People’s Lives) awards. I was delighted to be at a table with all our award nominees who had some fantastic stories of how they deliver front line public services to a variety of different customers. I sat next to the winner – Neil – who was fantastic in his commitment to the work he does with you..Mark LovellView Complete Post
Tuesday 24th April 2007, 08:36Read, read, read - find out - be informed - get connected.

At the recent get-together with 300 A4e Managers from around the world I asked what newspapers they read. I wasn't overwhelmed by the response!!

People are always asking me for self improvement and business tips - looking through my blogs you will find plenty - and then it occured to me that I have never actually explained the sort of things I do every day. The sort of things I take for granted - part of my 'being informed' routine.

It is all very well having lots of tips on behaviours and actions - but I suppose I should have mentioned that my behaviours and a..eharrisonView Complete Post

Monday 23rd April 2007, 12:10Some news and a catch up and a winner that inspires me

I have had a few days away - having an adventure in Morocco with my family. Walking in the Atlas Mountains - swimming in the sea - having a go at surfing too.

I loved Morocco - wonderful, crazy, smells, delicious colours, drama - these words describe the people and the place!

Back home - Squiffy Blue ( my rabbit) and Ronnie ( the dog) - seem fine - if not a little fatter - cos my mate Sue is a softie for animals - and is the tit-bit queen!

It was great to have a break - see things from a fresh viewpoint - have hours in which I was not expected by others ( and m..eharrisonView Complete Post

Wednesday 11th April 2007, 11:12Choice, Personalised Public Services and Social PolicyA4e is probably most well known in its markets for helping people back into work. A few years ago that was pretty much all of our business. As we have grown, so we have diversified and nowadays getting people back into employment accounts for about 40% of our revenue in the UK. There were three main reasons for our diversification – as a business, we needed to work in different markets as we grew to ensure opportunity for our staff as most of our business worked on short term contracts. More importantly, we recognised as we dealt with issues affecting unemployment, we had to develop join..Mark LovellView Complete Post
